Our reserve here consists of lowland wet grassland immediately behind a shingle bank seawall, and is part of the Bracklesham Bay Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It has rain-fed freshwater ditches and pools, supporting breeding lapwings and redshanks (eight pairs and three pairs in 2007, respectively), plus regular shelducks, grey partridges, barn and short-eared owls. Seawater percolates under this wall to form a saline lagoon and ditches.
