Kirriemuir Camera Obscura is housed in a purpose-designed turret room within the cricket pavilion on Kirriemuir Hill. Both the camera obscura and the cricket pavilion were donated in 1930 by the author J M Barrie (1868–1937), a native of Kirriemuir.
Although the technology is long obsolete, the camera obscura is well worth a visit as it provides a fascinating glimpse into an era when the production of remote images was seen as something almost magical. And when you find yourself in the darkened interior of the camera obscura with a fine, sunny day outside, you’ll feel the magic yourself as striking views of the surrounding countryside come alive on the viewing table in front of you!
