At Tongland Power Station, just outside Kirkcudbright, we have established a free Educational Resource Centre to provide education and information on hydro-electric power, environmental and public safety issues for local schools and other relevant groups.
Your visit will commence with a short introductory video on hydro-electric power and water safety followed by a tour of the visitor centre, control room and the turbine hall. You will then be required to use your own transport to travel about 1.5km by public road to the dam. Here your guided tour will continue across the dam incorporating a view of the reservoir, tunnel intake, floodgates and fish ladder.
You will have the opportunity to ask questions on any aspect of hydro-electric power including the many public safety and environmental aspects we have to consider as part of our operation.
