Kew Bridge Steam Museum is housed in the former Kew Bridge Pumping Station which dates from 1838.
During its active life the Station pumped water to west London. Of particular interest to engineers and steam enthusiasts, five of the original steam powered water pumping engines are on exhibit along with additional steam and diesel pumping devices collected from across England.
Most of these engines are regularly put “into steam” to demonstrate the skill of 19th and early 20th century British engineers. Kew Bridge Steam Museum is renowned around the world for its collection.
In addition, museum exhibits illustrate the story of London’s water supply from Roman times to the present showing the vital role of clean, pure water in the development of London as one of the world’s great cities.
