New Walk Museum's famous dinosaur and geology galleries are to undergo a major refurbishment, which started with the closure of the galleries on 22nd November.
The new galleries, set to open in 2011, will include objects never seen before including a new type of plesiosaur, a sea-going reptile from the Jurassic Period, alongside old favourites such as the 165 million year old Rutland Dinosaur.
They will also showcase items from the museum's world-class collection of fossils. The oldest remains on display will be the 560 million year old Charnwood Forest fossils, including Charnia - which are among the oldest such fossils in the world.
