Nunney Castle i9s the striking and picturesque moated castle of Nunney was built in the 1370s by Sir John de la Mere, who had seemingly served in the French wars.
Certainly it was designed in the latest French style, resembling a miniature version of the famous Paris Bastille. Held for the King during the Civil War, it was quickly reduced by Parliamentarian cannon in 1645: but not until Christmas Day 1910 did the gun-damaged portion of the wall collapse.
