There is so much to keep you busy during a visit to Afan Forest Park. The fantastic landscape offers lots of opportunities to get out and experience nature. There are excellent mountain biking, cycling and walking trails for visitors to enjoy.
Mountain Biking
Adrenaline junkies, this part of the website is for you! At Afan Forest Park you can reconnect with your bike and disconnect from everything else.
Twisty, rooty, rocky and in places wildly exposed, the singletrack in Afan Forest Park is the enthusiasts dream.
The trails here have been carved out of hillsides once surrounded by coal mining, but now the valley has been transformed into a bikers heaven.
Afan Forest Park is home to 5 world class trails, the 'Penhydd', 'Y Wal', 'Skyline', 'White's Level' and 'W', boasting over 100 km of singletrack trails. Afan Forest Park was the only UK trail destination to feature in the 'What Mountain Bike Magazine' as one of the ten best places to ride "before you die". In 2008 it was also voted one of the top ten public forests in the UK by the Sunday Telegraph.
Trails start from either the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre or Glyncorrwg Mountain Bike Centre, both great locations to set off from.
Cycling
Cycling is a great way of seeing the countryside and getting some beneficial exercise at the same time. The Afan Forest Park's low level cycle route 'Y Rheilffordd' (which means Railway in Welsh), which run along the base of the Valley, are very popular. This is a great trail for the family with picnic and refreshment stops along the trail, which is 36km in total.
Walking
Walking is life's natural form of relaxation. A stroll can solve a problem; a hike can help inspire an idea and a ramble will get your heart pumping. Afan Forest Park has 14 way marked circular walks and has therefore become a major walking destination. Our walks are diverse, varying from a one mile leisurely stroll to a ten mile (bring a packed lunch) hike. The starting points for our walks are Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre, Rhsylyn Car Park and Glyncorrwg Ponds Visitor Centre. Walking through our Valley offers the chance to reset your mind, tune back into nature and put a big smile on your face.
We have two walking packs available to ensure that you don't get lost out on the trails. 'Walks in Afan Forest Park' and 'Walks in the Corrwg Valley' include information, directions and maps on all 14 walks. Our walking packs are easy to use and waterproof! So there's no excuse to get out and get involved, if its raining dress properly, we don't believe in bad weather just bad clothing.
