The Country park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest with its unspoilt heath, grassland and intricate mosaic of acid and chalky soils.
On the heath and meadows, you may see the herd of semi-wild Exmoor ponies. These ponies are descended from Britain's natural wild pony of 130,000 years ago.
Knettishall Heath is the hub of long distance paths in the region:
Peddars Way - is a 95 mile walk, following the Roman road to the North Norfolk coast. Peddars is a corruption of pedlars. The travelling sales reps of the past. A new bus route starts at Easter 2005 connecting villages along the route.
Icknield Way - claimed to be the oldest route in Britain, dating back to about 4,000BC. This path takes you 120 miles to Buckinghamshire.
Angles Way - by following the valley of the Little Ouse and Waveney Rivers, the Angles Way goes from the Brecks to the Broads. It is 77 miles long, finishing at Great Yarmouth.
