Loch Doon Castle has been transplanted in the mid-1930s from an island in the middle of Loch Doon due to a hydro electric scheme, the castle consists of an eleven-sided curtain wall, of fine masonry, dating from 1300. Loch Doon has a unique population of Artic Char.
