About Milton Chantry

Milton Chantry is the oldest building in the Borough of Gravesham, it was founded in 1322 by Aymer de Valence, Earl of Pembroke and is situated within the Fort Gardens.

The Chantry offers a wonderful insight into the heritage of the Borough of Gravesham, its fascinating exhibits provide visitors of all ages with a sanpshot of times gone by in an interesting and stimulating environment.

The building fell into disuse after the Reformation and the chapel became an inn towards the end of the 17th century and later became part of the fort and defence works erected on the site. Today the building is promoted as the Chantry Heritage Centre, and houses a range of exhibits relating to Gravesend, Northfleet and the nearby villages.
