The most complete surviving Cistercian monastery in southern England, with almost all the walls of its 13th and 14th-century church still standing, along with many monastic buildings. Though under royal patronage, maritime Netley was never wealthy, allegedly due to the demands and dep-redations of mariners. After the Dissolution, the buildings were adapted as a mansion, now vanished:
