Parke Estate is a peaceful retreat set within the beautiful Devon countryside, with the River Bovey meandering through wildlife-rich woodlands.
The walled garden dates back to the 1800s, when it would probably have supplied mainly soft fruit for Parke House. It is an interesting design as it extends to only half an acre, but the ground slopes considerably, giving the walls an unusual shape. It is currently being restored to its former glory after many years of neglect.
A circular walk through woodland and riverside habitats, leads to the Medieval weir. It is located on a tranquil bend of the River Bovey, offering a charming spot for quiet contemplation. Look out for water-dropwart and wet grassland species in the meadows. Bluebells and wood anemone carpet the woodland floor in spring.
