Pilsey Island Nature Reserve is a small reserve comprises a wide range of coastal habitats; intertidal sandflats and mudflats, fore dunes and yellow dunes, bare and vegetated shingle and saltmarsh. An impressive variety of unusual plants, spiders and insects exist on the reserve, thriving in the undisturbed habitats.
Pilsey Island Nature Reserve, together with the adjacent area of Pilsey Sand, forms one of the most important pre-roost and roost site for passage and wintering waders in the area. The reserve can be viewed from the coastal path (the Sussex Border Path) that runs around the Thorney Island MoD base.
