About Scotland Street School Museum

Scotland Street School was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1902-1906.

Mackintosh is Glasgow’s most celebrated architect, and Scotland Street School was a functioning school up until 1979. It is now a museum.

It tells the story of education in Scotland over a hundred years, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century.

The museum is a must-see for Mackintosh fans. The building is a wonderful example of his architectural style. It includes a Mackintosh room where you can study the architect’s designs for the building.
School days of the Past

Scotland Street offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. See what school days were like in the reign of Queen Victoria, during World War II, and in the 1950s and 60s, in our three reconstructed classrooms. You can even dress up as a pupil from the past!

Exhibitions and Events at Scotland Street

Scotland Street regularly hosts family events and activites, and often has temporary exhibitions to see as well as its permanent displays.

Scotland Street School Museum has been awarded VisitScotland's Green Tourism Award - Bronze for its energy efficiency.
