Standedge Tunnel is the highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in the UK, stretching for 5,029 metres (3.25 miles) through hard millstone grit. An engineering marvel worked on by Thomas Telford, the tunnel runs from Marsden in Yorkshire through to Diggle in Lancashire.
Our Visitor Centre tells the fascinating history of the tunnel and tells all you need to know about who built the tunnel and how, as well as amazing facts about the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
