Stansted Park is a friendly stately home on the South Downs overlooking the coast, within 1800 acres of ancient forest on the borders of Hampshire and Sussex. The House at the end of a two-mile beech avenue, its private chapel, splendid mansion rooms and the fully furnished servants' quarters below stairs are open to visitors from Easter to September. School visits and pre-booked group visits are always very welcome.
Stansted Forest is enjoyed by thousands of visitors and managed to conserve wildlife habitats. In 1983 the 10th Earl of Bessborough gave Stansted Park, the forest, his family home and its beautiful contents to the public. The historic house and grounds are now a spectacular private venue for weddings and prestige corporate events all year round.
Other independent attractions on site are the Stansted House Garden Centre, the Pavilion Tea Room in the walled garden, the Stansted Light Railway, pottery and jewellery studios, and the Salon du Chocolat. Modern commercial offices are occasionally available to rent here in the Stable Yard.
The grounds host many different events throughout the year, including the Garden Show, Open-air Theatre, and Cricket - which has been played on the lawns at Stansted Park since the 1740s.
