About The Ribble Steam Museum

The railway opened to the public in September 2005 and quickly became the winner of the 'Heritage Railway Associations Small Group of the Year Award' for 2005, and later shortlisted in the 'Small Visitor Attraction of the Year Award' in the 2006 tourism awards from the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourst Board.
A visit to The Ribble Steam Railway is no static experience. You can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of steam locomotives in action as you ride the renovated and hand painted carriages pulled by restored steam locomotives on a 3 mile return trip alongside the River Ribble on the Preston Dock Railway. Visitors can enjoy the largest collection of standard gauge industrial locomotives housed under cover in the whole of the UK.
The train journey crosses the Preston Marina entrance via a swing bridge, and runs alongside the diverted River Ribble on the site of the former sprawling docklands.
The substantial workshop facilities were constructed in 2001 to provide a modern facility in which we are able to restore the many and varied exhibits in the railway's collection.
The museum building is continually being updated and improved to give visitors a truly interactive look into the fascinating industrial railway history of the North West of England.
