The Walled Garden is a delightful 'secret' garden dating back to the 1800's, when it once served as a kitchen garden to Down Grange House. Today Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council own, operate and maintain the Basingstoke Walled Garden as a public garden and wildlife area. Original features however still remain such as the formal yew hedges, the croquet lawn and gothic gates.
The garden is an 8 hectare enclosed area, with a wildlife pond and dipping platform, show allotments, bee hives and colourful herbaceous borders. There is also a level grassy area large enough for a 70X50ft marquee. The Bothy has toilets with disabled access and baby changing facilities, as well as a small kitchen area. It is only open to the public during events and also available to book.
The Garden is an idyllic location for wedding receptions and private functions and hosts a series of popular family events throughout the year publicised on this site and in many other local sites including Basingstoke-Now and the Basingstoke Council What's On guide.
