The volunteer members of the Doncaster and District Model Engineering Society (MES) operate the miniature railway in Thorne Memorial Park. The members are involved with the building and maintenance of the railway. The railway has 5 electric locomotives and 2 steam engines operating on 7.25 inch and 5 inch gauge. Visiting locomotives are welcomed. Seating/tables are provided during the main operating season. Including provision for children's drawing facilities. Light refreshments and sales stall. The railway operates(subject to weather conditions) each Sunday afternoon from Easter until the end of September, then every first Sunday of the month to coincide with the Thorne Farmers Market held just five minutes walk from the railway. There are other events throughout the year including the Summer Festival event in July and August and School Holiday Wednesday Specials.
