Tropiquaria is West Somerset’s own tropical house and adventure park. Set in a 1930s art-deco BBC transmitter hall they still take waste heat from a BBC transmitter to help keep their animals warm.
In the hall there are a range of reptiles, some of which may be handled. You can also meet Mr. Bumble, the famous skunk here. The hall also has a range of free-flying tropical birds. Downstairs in the crypt there is an aquarium. Outside there are a range of animals on display including meerkats, lemurs, a tapir and some monkeys called tamarins which Tropiquaria is currently breeding.
Paul Doran’s shadowstring puppet theatre offers shows which entertain the young and old alike and the radio museum often brings a touch of nostalgia to the grandparents. With it’s mix of indoor and outdoor attractions Tropiquaria is truly an all-weather attraction.
